Clemente Goes to: Tulum

Tropical destination trip coming up? Join Ana Lucía as she reveals her ultimate packing tips, and some outfit inspo in the process.

One of my best friends is getting married, so her bride squad is celebrating her engagement at the hottest tropical destination of the moment - Tulum. As a travel enthusiast and a planner at heart - I want to share with you the 6 steps I follow to easily and effectively pack for a weekend getaway:

1. Draft a schedule of activities + check the weather

I like to start off the packing task by drafting a schedule with a list of activities, and checking the weather forecast for each day. This gives me an estimate number of outfits, and a heads-up in case I need to consider lower temperatures. For example, if I have dinner plans for all nights, I’ll note to myself “OK- I’ll need 3 night out outfits”. And in case it gets breezy, I’ll pack a light sweater, cardigan or a chal to throw on top - just one of these is enough, preferably in a neutral tone.

Counting the exact number of outfits you’ll need is essential for avoiding overpacking. However, always count an extra outfit in case you end up staying one more night or a fashion emergency occurs. Likewise, always try to squeeze in tank tops that can be worn underneath blouses, or light sweaters that can be thrown on top so you can be prepared for colder days or nights.

2. Visualize your looks

To better visualize my outfits, I like to lay down my stuff on a flat surface (bed or table). This practice makes outfit creation easier, and it also helps to identify combinations across pieces. For example, I can realize that I can wear the same shoes and bag for all my night outfits.

Pro tip: take a picture of each outfit arrangement so you can refer to it while dressing up on your trip. This way you will not forget the combination, and you’ll also be able to share a sneak peek of your look with friends!

3. Try the looks on

Has it ever happened to you that your outfit doesn't look how you imagined it? This is me all the time. That’s why I take the proactive approach of trying my travel outfits ahead of time to make sure that they look as good in reality as they do in my head.

Pro tip: take a mirror pic to remember the look! If you are extra enough, you can even create a slideshow or album with your outfits for easy access during your trip.

4. Follow this shoes & bags rule

We all know that what takes up the most space in our luggage is the shoes and bags. When traveling with a carry-on, I try to pick a day set and night set of shoes and bags to repeat across all outfits. For example, all of my night look outfits will have the same shoe-bag set. This small sacrifice really goes a long way if you need to pack light.

5. Prioritize versatile pieces!

If you know us you know we are all about creating and buying versatile, timeless pieces. When traveling, we recommend our Clemente pañuelos as your go-to piece because:

  • it is as light-weighted as a feather! you can pack 10 of these and still feel that you are packing light

  • dust bag included! you can rest assured that your products will not get dirty or scratched if you place them inside their pouch (and you can also reuse your pouch for other things like storing your underwear or tanning creams)

  • infinite looks guaranteed! you can wear the same piece from the beach to the bar, and no one will feel like you’re repeating an outfit - plus, you’ll have access to styling tutorials 24/7

  • fashion emergency savior! we always carry a Clemente in our purse in case a pasta sauce or a coffee drop stains our look

  • no dry-clean needed! while we recommend dry-clean as your preferred cleaning method, you can safely wash, dry and steam your pieces while on vacation - follow the tutorial here

6. Pack wisely & stay fresh!

To optimize space in your luggage, pack in cubes! It’s so practical and convenient for both the packing and the unpacking. I like using Mumi Design’s packing cubes for my clothes, and linen storage bags for my underwear or pijamas.

To keep my clothes and bags fresh, I spray them with a linen/fabric scent from Zara Home.

For easy cleaning and ironing, I pack gentle detergent packets from The Laundress, and my steamer from Black and Decker.

I hope these tips come in handy the next time you are packing for a weekend getaway, and in the meantime, encourage you to start shopping the looks via clementeconcept.com
